My Pink Apron

I thought I would post my favorite apron and how I made it. Of course it is pink! One of my favorite colors.
I do not have a pattern, I knew how I wanted it to look so I just had to figure it out as I went along.

I used 4 different fabrics. The measurements are the finished size. The front panel is 10" in width at the top then tapers from the waist to 17" at the bottom. I also cut a lining the same size. The length of the panel is 29". I first made the pocket and the decorative top piece and sewed the top piece on first.

I made the straps and pined them in place [they cross in the back but you can make a neck strap instead] then
I used a coordinating fabric for the bib and sewed it around the bib then turned it. Then sewed the pocket on.
Next I made the side panels. They are 2 1/2" at the top and taper down to 5" at the bottom. The length is 17 1/2". This is where you have to measure yourself as to how far around yourself you want it to go. Hem the one side of the 2 side panels. Then sew them on to the front panel.

Next I made a 6" ruffle using 2 different fabrics. Hem it before you ruffle it! Sewed it on and then I sewed the lace on the top, right side up.
Next I made the ties 2 1/2 by 35". I sewed them on the top of the panels. I am a size 10. Ajust to your size.
Its important to allow at least 1/2" seam allowance when you cut your fabric. Also to press as you go!! Well this is how I made it. You may come up with a different way to put it together but you get the idea, so HAPPY SEWING! Here are some sites for more ideas;
This is a wonderful place to purchase pretty aprons or just get some ideas at Parker court designs.
At Whimzy treasures vintage paper collectibles they have vintage apron patterns.
And at Sew Thankful they have a lot of wonderful patterns.
God Bless your day! Sharon

Oh, my gosh, I love it! It's so pretty and feminine. It's hard to believe you made that from scratch, without a pattern. You did a beautiful job on it.
Have you ever seen the book "A is for Aprons"? I treated myself to it and have made several of the aprons. I especially love when I wash all of them and hang them out on the line. They look so colorful.
BTW...hopped over here from "Sugar Pie Farmhouse" just to see what you made.

Sharon - Thank you for sharing your beautiful apron. I've never seen one like it. I just found your blog listed on A Little Grace and Charm and the words "pink apron" drew me right over! I'm a grandmother, too (10 at the last count), and I'm looking forward to reading your blog as you continue on. As a Mom and Grandmother I pass on a lot of encouragement, but sometimes I could use some, too!

Sharon,
I love that apron. Wish I could sew good enough to make something that nice. I have a lot of aprons, I have collected them for a few years. I have made two half ones.Probably best not to show them off. HA.

Hi Sharon! Your apron is just darling, and so is the pretty red one down below in your sidebar! I see you're an Anne of Green Gables girl, so am I, and I also just loved your country kitchen painting with that sweet cow...have I seen your artwork in a magazine??? You have a delightful blog, and I look forward to visiting again and again! =D Paulette
